BRISHTI BISWAS
Indian Furniture & Home Accessory Designer
Brishti Biswas is a furniture designer whose practice focuses on craft-led contemporary objects and spatial accessories. Born in Kolkata and raised in Jalandhar, she is a third-generation maker, and her work is shaped by a sustained engagement with materials, making, and everyday use.
Trained initially as an architect, her interest gradually shifted towards furniture and object-making, driven by a fascination with the sculptural and material qualities of form. Living and studying in Jaipur became a turning point in her journey, introducing her to the city’s rich craft culture and shaping a practice rooted in material exploration and hands-on making.
Her time at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad played a formative role in shaping her design thinking, offering a space to develop her own approach to furniture, materials, and making. Her work brings together Indian craft sensibilities and contemporary functionality, translating traditional material intelligence into furniture and everyday objects suited for present-day interiors. She balances craft-based thinking with industrial feasibility.
In 2024, she founded Boota Collective, an art and design initiative that embodies her ongoing engagement with craftsmanship, metal, and collaborative making.
