A Matter Of Things
Brishti Biswas is a third-generation maker, a young architect-turned-furniture designer with an inclination for creating space-enhancing products beyond furniture. Her practice explores what may be called “Functional Art”, functional objects that embody an artistic essence.
With a deep affinity for metal and its inherent properties, she is drawn to exploring its potential through material, process, and form. This exploration finds expression through her initiative, Boota Collective, which seeks to build bridges between craft, contemporary design, and making. While metal holds a special place in her practice, she remains curious across materials, processes, and scales, letting each idea shape its own language.

Boota | ਬੂਟਾ (which literally means ‘plant’, in Punjabi) has emerged from the project "Alloys of Copper" (inception 2023) and features Biswas' first collection of objects developed under her Graduation Project at NID, Ahmedabad and beyond. It embraces a philosophy of “slow design”, which emphasizes the thoughtful creation of products that are made with care and intention. Much like nurturing a plant, each piece is meticulously crafted, often by hand, using ethically sourced materials.
Biswas believes that collaborative industrial design holds the power to transform our environments for the greater good, in myriad ways. Through her practice, she aspires to build an ecosystem that supports craft, encourages collaboration, and creates objects and experiences that are functional, meaningful, and capable of leaving a lasting impact on society.
